There is an exciting opportunity for a Scientist with excellent knowledge in protein purification to join our Downstream Processing team. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively within the DSP and analytical team, multitask to reach tight project deadlines and show an aptitude for learning new skills.
The candidate must have experience in the setup and running FPLC systems such as the ÄKTA pure™ (or similar) and ideally be familiar with Tangential Flow Filtration techniques. Attention to experimental detail and meticulous data recording is essential. Due to the collaborative nature of our company, excellent interpersonal communication is also required. Formal oral presentation and report writing skills are desirable to enable the successful candidate to present findings and report results in a clear manner. Experience working in a regulated industry laboratory setting is advantageous, in particular working to GMP or GLP.
In return, the successful candidate will be embedded within a dynamic, sociable team in a lab-based role with flexible working hours. This position will be based at bespoke new facilities at the Edinburgh Technopole where there is a regular bus link to the City Centre, free on-site parking and on-site café – The perfect setting to meet colleagues over a coffee in view of the Pentland Hills.

Skills / Experience
The candidate will have:
- An Honours Bachelor’s degree (with at least 2 years of industrial experience), a Masters (with at least 1 year of industrial experience) or a PhD (no industrial work experience) in Biological or Chemical Sciences (or closely aligned subject). We will also consider applicants with solely relevant industry experience (4 years minimum).
- Experience of set up and running ÄKTA pure™ or comparable FPLC system.
- A good knowledge and practical ability in chromatographic techniques such as ion exchange, affinity and hydrophobic interaction.
- Good numeracy skills and a strong problem-solving ability.
- Proven ability to work both independently, and as part of a team.
- The candidate must be able to multitask, have excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and a flexible hard-working approach are key attributes for this position.
- Good interpersonal communication with team members.
Other Desirable Skills (Not Essential) include:
- Filtration experience including Tangential Flow Filtration and ultra- filtration
- ELISA experience and assay development
- Experience in using a Quality Management System (SOP’s, RA’s etc).
- Experience in formal report writing and oral presentations.
- Basic knowledge of analytical chemistry and microbiology
- Knowledge and experience of statistical analysis including DoE software packages.
