Job Overview

Ingenza is a growing and very well established Industrial Biotechnology Company based at The Roslin Innovation Centre – a brand new building! We have 40 members of staff and our team are dynamic and multidisciplinary.

Our Fermentation team sit at the heart of almost all projects at Ingenza. The team work closely together and rely on each other everyday. We would like a Modern Apprentice to join our Fermentation team to help out with day-to-day fermentation tasks such as preparing our vessels for a fermentation, supporting the Scientists with their project tasks, keeping the laboratory clean, tidy and well organised whilst learning the fermentation process along the way!

In return you will get the opportunity to work with a fun group of people who enjoy lots of sporty activities and socialising. Our state-of-the-art laboratories and brand new offices provide wonderful views of the Pentland Hills not to mention the lovely coffee and cakes served up next door in Dolly’s Café where we all go for lunch! We have an onsite gym and free on site parking as well as a regular bus route into the city centre and surrounding areas.

What will I learn?

You will learn all there is to know about Fermentation from our Fermentation Scientists, led by Dr Alison Arnold who has over 20 years experience in Fermentation. You will learn specifically about;

  • Microbiology
  • Aseptic Technique
  • Media preparation
  • Using a microscope
  • Pouring plates
  • Growth of cultures in shake flasks

You will be under the supervision of a former Modern Apprentice who is now a Fermentation Scientist with a successful 10 year career at Ingenza!

You will be expected to attend Forth Valley College for initially 1 day per week where you will be enrolled on the course ‘Life Sciences and Related Science Industries’.

What qualifications or qualities are required?

We would like the successful candidate to have Maths and English at a minimum of National 4 level.

The main qualifications for this role is enthusiasm, an eagerness to learn and a good work ethic!
