There is a fantastic opportunity for an analytical biochemist to work for an innovative, world leading engineering biology company based just outside Edinburgh. The candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about science. It is essential the candidate demonstrates evidence of interdisciplinary team skills and is able to work collaboratively with others to reach projects deadlines. The candidate should be flexible, proactive and have the ability to multi-task effectively to meet the demands of different work activities. Good communication and presentation skills are necessary with a willingness to learn.
Skills/Experience
The candidate will have:
- A PhD/Masters in Analytical Chemistry/Chemistry/Biochemistry (or related field) or an equivalent graduate degree with at least 3 years industrial experience.
- Extensive experience in developing and implementing analytical tools such as SEC-HPLC and LC-MS for quantitation and purity determination of small molecules and proteins in biological samples
- Excellent technical knowledge and experience in implementing, developing and optimising biochemical assays and methods such as ELISA, SDS-PAGE, WB, protein concentration, enzymatic assays, among others
- Ability to rigorously QC analytical data and present interpretation of results in collaboration with the project team
- Confidence in maintenance and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation
- Proven ability to independently generate new ideas and deliver innovative approaches to increase workplace productivity
- Experience in writing protocols, SOPs and reports
Desirable skills but not essential would be for example:
- Experience in using liquid handling robotics for development/implementation of new assays and high throughput screening
- Experience in the techniques used for recombinant protein purification, product purity determination and product characterisation.
- Good knowledge of molecular biology, microbiology and fermentation
