The successful candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about science. It is essential that the successful candidate demonstrates evidence of interdisciplinary team skills and is able to work collaboratively with others to reach projects deadlines whilst being flexible, proactive and be able to multi-task effectively to meet the demands of different work activities. Good communication and presentation skills are necessary alongside a willingness to learn.
The successful candidate will be embedded within a dynamic, sociable team in a role with flexible working hours. The role will be based at the Roslin Innovation Centre where there is regular bus links to the City Centre, free on-site parking, an on-site gym, on-site childcare and several on-site cafes – the perfect setting to meet colleagues over a coffee in view of the beautiful Pentland Hills
Skills / Experience
The candidate will have:
- A PhD/Masters in Analytical Chemistry/Chemistry/Biochemistry (or related field) or an equivalent graduate degree with at least 3 years industrial experience.
- Excellent technical knowledge and experience in working with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, LCMS and/or GCMS.
- Extensive experience in analytical method development and qualification for quantitation and purity determination of small molecules and proteins in biological samples using HPLC, LCMS and/or GCMS
- Good knowledge of sample preparation techniques required for effective small molecule and protein analysis (e.g. intact and/or peptide mapping)
- Experience using Agilent data acquisition and processing software such as MassHunter or BioConfirm
- Excellent attention to detail and a critical eye to interpret and rigorously QC analytical data
- Excellent communication skills to disseminate analytical results to both internal project teams in addition to external customers
- Confidence in maintenance and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation
- Proven ability to independently generate new ideas and deliver innovative approaches to increase workplace productivity
- Proven ability to multi-task and work across several projects in parallel
- Experience in writing protocols, SOPs and reports and working within an industrial quality management framework
Desirable skills but not essential would be for example:
- Technical knowledge and experience in implementing, developing and optimising biochemical assays and methods such as ELISA, SDS-PAGE, WB, protein concentration, enzymatic assays, among others
- Experience in using liquid handling robotics for development/implementation of new assays and high throughput screening
- Good knowledge of molecular biology, microbiology and fermentation
