We have a very exciting opportunity to join our Downstream Processing Department. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate about science. It is essential that the candidate demonstrates evidence of interdisciplinary team skills and can work collaboratively with others to reach project deadlines whilst being flexible, proactive, and able to multi-task effectively to meet the demands of different work activities. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential for this role alongside a willingness to learn and line manage a team.
The role will be based at the Roslin Innovation Centre, where we operate flexible working hours, excellent bus links to the City Centre, free on-site parking, an on-site gym, on-site childcare, and several on-site cafes – the perfect setting to meet colleagues over a coffee in view of the beautiful Pentland Hills.
Skills / Experience
The candidate will have:
- A PhD in Biochemistry/Protein Chemistry (or related field) with at least 3 years of industrial experience.
- Experience in Project Management and technical leadership of biotechnology/pharma development projects within multidisciplinary teams.
- Line management/supervision experience is essential for this role.
- Excellent technical knowledge and experience in developing and troubleshooting purification strategies for recombinant protein using chromatography systems.
- Excellent technical knowledge and experience in implementing, developing, and qualifying biochemical assays and methods such as ELISA, SDS-PAGE, WB, protein concentration determination, and enzymatic assays, amongst others.
- Appreciation of workflow interface of protein purification and analytical chemistry, ensuring DSP protocols are consistent with HPLC, LCMS and GCMS needs
- Desirable CMC / GMP experience with particular emphasis on defining product and process specifications and controls to ensure product consistency.
- The ability to rigorously QC assay data and present interpretation of results to external parties in collaboration with the project team.
- Confidence in maintenance and troubleshooting instrumentation.
- Proven ability to independently generate new ideas and deliver innovative approaches to increase workplace productivity.
- Experience in writing protocols, SOPs and reports.
- Diligence in recording of experimental data in laboratory notebooks and adherence to company quality policies.
